MEET THE Managers of Risk & Chaos

Austin & Samantha Lowe

Austin is most uncomfortable when talking about himself and would much rather hear your story and how he can support you. He feels most at peace in the woods, working with his hands, or on his lawnmower, deep in thought. His greatest joy is often found in spending time with his amazing wife and their 4 children.

He is known for making punishing workouts look easy, submitting jiu jitsu opponents viciously and creatively without even breathing hard, and even ran his first ultramarathon on a week's notice just to support a friend. He leads by example and quietly encourages those around him to do hard things beyond what they thought their limits could be.

Austin was an academic all-American offensive lineman at Wingate University. He also earned his undergraduate and master's degrees in accounting there. He earned his CPA and has steadily worked his way up in an industrial refrigeration company for 14 years, where he currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer.

Austin appreciates a systematic approach to Scripture. He enjoys deep-dive Bible studies and juggling multiple books and commentaries to enrich his studies. He does not enjoy the spotlight, but will gladly share his knowledge and struggle to practically live out the principles in Scripture. Austin is passionate about equipping men to live a faith-filled life marked by simple obedience, servant leadership, stewardship, and radical generosity.

He believes quiet everyday moments, like good smoked meats around a dinner table, can become powerful spiritual weapons.

Samantha is the unlikely manager of a sort-of homestead. She earned her master's degree in journalism from Arizona State University, which granted her the opportunity to work in Washington, DC as a reporter covering Congress. She worked as a producer at a news station in Charlotte, where she thrived on fast-paced deadlines and competition. Samantha left the demands of an ever-changing news cycle following the birth of their first child and struggled to embrace stay-at-home motherhood and rural living. Now, she joyfully wrangles four semi-feral children and a quirky flock of chickens. You'll often find something bubbling away on her kitchen counter or hanging to dry, as she enjoys experimenting with fermentation and herbalism.

God uses ultramarathon running to teach her how to struggle well, to rediscover the joy of curiosity, and to consistently humble her. Samantha prays, cries, and praises on long runs and marvels at the beauty of His creation out on the trail. (Being a good Father full of good gifts, He also knew she'd love all the fun snacks required to run 60+ miles at a time.) She's always searching for the next race and someone bold enough to sign up with her. Samantha also practices Brazilian jiu jitsu and teaches little kids classes.

Samantha is in awe of the depth and richness of the Scriptures. She meditates most on the tensions prevalent in the life of a believer – the now and not yet, the simple but not easy.

Samantha and Austin were foster parents for six years, where they saw God's heart for families. They believe strongly in supporting at-risk families, especially children and youth, and the power of keeping them together and out of foster care. Their family mission is currently to steward their home, time, and money effectively for the Kingdom.
